Some mention that prices are on the higher side, reflecting its central DC location. The welcoming ambiance and reliable service remain standout features across reviews.
It will be super busy after 5pm on weekdays and definitely busy at night on weekends, but the food is great! It’s a bit pricey, but it’s DC. I got the seasonal dish with the Mashed potato, greens, chicken breast, and mushrooms cream. It was excellent. Definitely recommend to try the Fish and chips, it’s their signature. The chicken tenders were ok. The Mash Bangers are good as well. Service is good depending on how crowded they get. FYI, you Need to pay for street parking or just park at Reagan Building, but it ain’t cheap.
Never had a bad time here. Huge fish and chips, and great options for food allergies. Will always come back when in the area
We had a wonderful experience at Elephant and Castle! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and accommodating. We asked to sit outside to enjoy their outdoor seating area, and even though the weather turned breezy with a little rain, it didn’t ruin our night. A special shoutout to Brad, the Assistant General Manager, who went above and beyond by offering my fiance a beer on him, such a kind and personal touch! The food was absolutely fabulous, great portions and amazing flavors. I had the fish and chips with their homemade tartar sauce and no exaggeration, we could have taken a gallon of it home because it was absolutely amazing!!! We also found the pricing very reasonable for the amount and quality of food we received. Since it’s a British pub, we anticipated a lively atmosphere, but the music inside did feel a little louder than expected. Still, it wasn’t enough to take away from the great vibe and experience. We’ll absolutely be back again soon!
Elephant & Castle is a true gem in the heart of Washington, DC. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly blends the charm of a traditional British pub with a lively, modern energy. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make your visit memorable. The menu offers a fantastic mix of classic pub favorites and contemporary dishes. I highly recommend the fish and chips — crispy, flavorful, and authentically British — as well as their juicy burgers and hearty shepherd’s pie. Their beer selection is outstanding, featuring a great variety of local brews and international favorites. For those who prefer cocktails, their bar staff crafts excellent drinks that perfectly complement the meal.
The cozy atmosphere, really amazing service by ERICA and delicious food surpassed all my expectations! I’ve been to Scotland and haven’t had Shepherds pie as good as this place. What made it amazing was Erica. We had drinks within 5 minutes and food on the table in 15! She even got a great photo for us to remember this experience.
Had a nice casual dinner before a concert at the Warner Theatre. Great pub atmosphere. The bar area was moderately noisy. We requested a quieter area and were seated in the back room which was perfect. The food was very tasty and the wait staff were very attentive. Highly recommend the fried dill pickle appetizer!!
We went there between lunch and dinner, therefore, pretty empty. The food was great, and the pricing was unbeatable here in DC. We will have to go back again.
Another great visit to E&C! The weather was perfect for sitting outside. We started with the fried pickles, which were served piping hot. The sauce was delicious with a bit of spice to it. Our meals arrived very quickly and were also outstanding! I had the steak and mushroom pie and my wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. We finished off the meal with the brownie sundae. That was also delicious, though it took a lot longer to come out than our meals. Overall, another excellent experience.
